birthdays galore

after Fabricio's party, then came Alex's birthday party on sunday....she turned 2. Christina and Will organized a party for her at eZe. all the kids (and parents) were there. presents, pinatas with candy, cake, sand to sit in/play with/eat, bubbles to blow, balls to kick around - it was all covered.

a few more shots...

Fabricio's party at Onno's house

it was Fabricio's birthday yesterday. we met him through Christin. he's Italian and owns one of the mozzarella cheese companies here. he was all psyched up and having a great time at Haudi's place, Cabaha, before a bunch of us headed over to the party, which was held at Onno's house. Onno being the one who until recently owned the legendary Onno's Beach Bar here on Cabarete Beach. well, i think we found ourselves at one of the coolest houses in Cabarete in terms of design and atmosphere. i should more say the grounds and outside spaces were what was cool, as we never went into the house itself. the place gave off a vibe of the mediterrean, bali, and cabarete all in one! the mediterrean feeling came from the terra cotta walkways and archways with vines. the use of wood for the second floor of the house and the guest bungalow gave off the balinese feel. the lush tropical grounds and palapa styled roofs were Cabarete all the way. loved the pool all lit up, the palapa covered dj/dance space, and the outdoor fireplace and accompanying seating area! the fireplace was making us all hot as hell while dancing but did a great job of keeping away the mosquitos that were lurking in the lagoon right to the back of the property.

normally the area around the pool is set up with tables and functions as a restaurant on thursday nights or by reservation with big parties. we will for sure have to go back for dinner sometime, though i don't think you can top the kind of fun we had there last night!

with Onno spinning some great tunes, people were dancing and dancing. here are some pictures starting with Christin, Fabricio, and us:

halloween - cabarete style!

some pics from last night's halloween bash here in cabarete. we started at a party at michelle's and then on to Lax with a brief stop at Voy-Voy. every year i am always impressed by the costumes here. i mean it's not like we have a Boston Costume around the corner or a Wal-Mart for all those needed accessories. i managed to pull together a flapper costume, using the only dress i practically own, the feather boa that veronica's dad brought over to wear during the dutch world cup games last year, a mardi-gras necklace i got at jose o'shay's this past st. patrick's day, and a rolled up magazine page for a cigarette holder. v was the ocean, which was very creative. some blue shirt & shorts, glue, cabarete beach sand & seaweed, and fish from the streamers stubbs brought to tortola and v had her costume! toss in a diving mask and we were all set.

v making her costume

kill bill outfits were popular. michael from iguana mama was unrecognizable in his hip hop outfit...really well done!

some concern that steve would lose his "hawaiian skirt"

do you wanna buy some property?

a brief stop at Voy-Voy where we were reunited with daniel and his girlfriend

all in all a fun night!

World Series Champs!

Well, I am 4 days late in writing about this, so the euphoria has died down, but still, the SOX WON! I was so nervous when Delcarmen was in there. Then when Oki was pitching and gave up that homer to make it 4-3, I had to turn the sound off. Just before Atkins' homer, I was thinking of Oki having given up a homer to the first batter he ever faced this season. Must have been bad karma as that is what happened a second later. When Papelbon came in, I had to wonder how much gas he had left in him. Well, he had quite the tank-full, though that screamer out to left that Jacoby Ellsbury caught took my breath away for a second. Then when he bounced one of the throws in the dirt to Sean Smith, I thought "Oh geez, he's nervous." Afterwards Papelbon admitted that during the Smith at-bat, he had started to think about the guys all rushing out from the dugout after the final out. I bet that was when he bounced that ball in the dirt.

Anyway he pulled it together and scorched one past Smith. I had a slightly delayed reaction as I thought Smith may have fouled it off, but then I saw Varitek jump up. Wahooooooooooooooooo!

We both were really bummed not to be in Boston for the final out and the parade! Over the next 2 days, I read just about every Sox story online I could, which was not the same as being in Boston and seeing the live coverage. Maybe we'll be there next year! Hey, now that's some new found confidence that never was there before for this Sox fan.

I hope they do resign Lowell. As for Schilling, I think he's done, at least I think the Sox may be wiser to not resign him. I think he made it through the playoffs on adrenaline and willing himself to succeed more than having the talent anymore.

I just gotta say how much I love Pedroia, Ellsbury, and Papelbon. It's great that we get to experience them for many years to come.
